1-Acetyl-2-pyrrolidone is a divalent ligand that can form complexes with metal ions. It has been used in analytical methods to detect the presence of aldehydes and carbonyls. 1-Acetyl-2-pyrrolidone is also a nucleophilic amide, which means it is a proton donor.
