It can also be synthesized from acetaldehyde and acetic acid catalyzed by zeolite or from formaldehyde and sodium hydroxide catalyzed by methyl ethyl ketone. 3-Ethyl-o-xylene can be used as an industrial developer in photography and as an intermediate to produce other chemicals such as fatty acids and aromatic hydrocarbons.br>br
