Descrizione

Desfuroyl ceftiofur sodium is a synthetic, broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, mycoplasma, chlamydiae, rickettsiae, and viruses. It is also active against some protozoans and helminths. Desfuroyl ceftiofur sodium is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The drug's activity against microorganisms is due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This leads to cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis in bacterial cells.
