Descrizione

Ertapenem is a carbapenem antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It binds to the transpeptidase enzyme, which blocks cross-linking of peptidoglycan. Ertapenem has a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive bacteria and is used for the treatment of serious infections caused by these bacteria. Ertapenem has been shown to be more effective than tetracycline in treating methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections. The drug acts by preventing bacterial growth and multiplication by binding to the ribosome, blocking protein synthesis and inhibiting cell wall synthesis. It also has an effect on metabolic response and can cause increased levels of bilirubin, creatinine, liver enzymes, or serum potassium.
