It has been shown to block the release of cytosolic calcium, which may be due to its ability to inhibit phospholipase A2 and polymerase chain reaction. 2-Methylthioadenosine triphosphate tetrasodium salt is used in biological samples such as human plasma and serum, as well as in model systems, where it shows anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects. 2-Methylthioadenosine triphosphate tetrasodium salt also inhibits the production of adenosine by interfering with the activity of adenylate kinase. This drug can be used for the treatment of diseases such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
