Descrizione

8-Fluoro erythromycin is a synthetic form of erythromycin that has been modified by the addition of a fluorine atom. It is active against Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes, as well as Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli. 8-Fluoro erythromycin inhibits the synthesis of bacterial proteins by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit and inhibiting peptide bond formation. The drug also inhibits membrane transport and cytochrome P450 enzymes in mammalian cells.
