It also improves glycemic control and reduces body weight, which may be due to its effects on the metabolism of carbohydrate, fat, and protein. Imeglimin hydrochloride has been shown to reduce plasma exposure when taken with food, but this effect does not persist if taken on an empty stomach. Urine samples show that imeglimin hydrochloride is eliminated at a rate of less than 10% per day.
