Isochlortetracycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and blocks protein synthesis by inhibiting the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosome. Isochlortetracycline is an active form of tetracycline that has been shown to have antimicrobial properties, which can be attributed to its inhibition of the protein synthesis in bacteria. The drug is also used for the preparation of samples for analysis. Isochlortetracycline has been shown to produce matrix effects when working with samples containing proteins, such as serum or plasma. It also has a cytosolic calcium-dependent fluorescence intensity, which can be used as an analytical method. Isochlortetracycline is not active against organisms resistant to other types of antibiotics, such as beta-lactams or quinolones.
