It is used in the treatment of inflammatory disorders, such as asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. The drug binds to glucocorticoid receptors in the cell nucleus and interacts with DNA to regulate gene transcription. Proteins synthesized by the regulated genes are involved in inflammation and immune responses. 1,2-Dehydroprogesterone also has been shown to have strong anti-inflammatory properties.
