Isopropyl(triphenyl)phosphonium bromide reacts with hydroxy compounds to form mixed esters. Isopropyl(triphenyl)phosphonium bromide has been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-negative organisms and enhance the activity of retinoic acid by modulating its biological properties. Isopropyl(triphenyl)phosphonium bromide also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
