Isopropyl(triphenyl)phosphonium bromide is a reactive, hydroxyl group containing compound that is used in the synthesis of other organic compounds. It is used to study meiosis. Isopropyl(triphenyl)phosphonium bromide reacts with hydroxy compounds to form mixed esters. Isopropyl(triphenyl)phosphonium bromide has been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-negative organisms and enhance the activity of retinoic acid by modulating its biological properties. Isopropyl(triphenyl)phosphonium bromide also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
