Methyl cis-11-octadecenoate is a fatty acid that is formed in the biosynthesis of corynebacterium glutamicum. It can be used as a carbon source to produce biodiesel. Methyl cis-11-octadecenoate has been shown to enhance the production of polyunsaturated fatty acids and can be used for the postulated synthesis of methyl methoxy, which is a potential reaction product. The chromatographic and spectrometric analyses have revealed that methyl cis-11-octadecenoate is a mixture of cis and trans forms, but the exact structure has not yet been determined.
