Descrizione:2-Chloro-3-hydroxybenzonitrile is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water. It has an odour of chlorinated rubber and a bitter taste. The compound is used as an intermediate for the production of herbicides, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals. 2-Chloro-3-hydroxybenzonitrile can be prepared by the reaction of sodium chloride with benzene and nitrous acid, followed by hydrolysis. It can also be produced by the chlorination of benzonitrile or phenylacetone in the presence of hydrochloric acid. This chemical has been shown to react with potassium hydroxide to form potassium chloride, hydrogen chloride, and 2-chloro-3-(2H)phenoxypropionic acid.
