Polyphyllin VII is a natural compound that has been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells and regulate transcription. It induces apoptosis by regulating the expression of pro-apoptotic proteins and inhibiting the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins. Polyphyllin VII may be a potential biomarker for acute toxicities, such as liver toxicity or kidney toxicity, due to its ability to induce autophagy. Autophagy is the process by which a cell degrades its own organelles, such as mitochondria and peroxisomes, when they are no longer needed. This process helps cells maintain homeostasis during periods of stress.
