Neosolaniol is a natural product that is used as a sample preparation agent in toxicological studies. It is synthesized from the fungus Aspergillus niger and has been shown to inhibit the activity of the liver enzyme cytochrome P450, which catalyzes the oxidation of many drugs. The chemical structure of neosolaniol includes an oxygenated hydroxyl group that can be oxidized by cytochrome P450, leading to a decrease in its potency. Neosolaniol also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and preventing transcription and replication. This drug has been shown to have some anti-inflammatory properties due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
