Descrizione:UKI-1 is a mutant form of the enzyme urokinase, which is used for the treatment of cancer. It has shown to inhibit metastasis by binding to the extracellular matrix and preventing cells from migrating. UKI-1 has also been found to have a structure that resembles benzamidine, a ligand that can be used as a template for optimisation. The crystal structure of UKI-1 has revealed that it contains an active site with amino acid residues that are similar to those of plasminogen activator (PA) molecules, which are molecules that are involved in blood clotting.
