Descrizione:ZK 93426 Hydrochloride is a benzodiazepine receptor antagonist that binds to the GABA receptor. It has been shown to be effective in treating symptoms of anxiety and depression in both animals and humans. The drug blocks the binding of benzodiazepines to the GABA receptor, which enhances the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, leading to decreased muscle tone, lessened anxiety, and improved sleep. ZK 93426 Hydrochloride has also been found to increase acetylcholine levels in the brain by blocking the function of acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine. This leads to an increased number of receptors for acetylcholine on cholinergic neurons. ZK 93426 Hydrochloride does not bind to 5-HT2 receptors, which may account for its lack of efficacy in treating symptoms of depression.
