Alpha-chloralose is a chemical compound that has clinical relevance in anesthesia. It is an alkyl alcohol with nitrogen atoms and a maximum of 20% beta-anomer. Alpha-chloralose has been shown to have a dose-dependent effect on the glomerular filtration rate, metabolic rate, and creatine kinase levels in mice. This substance also has anesthetic properties, which can be useful for surgical procedures. Alpha-chloralose is not active at GABA receptors, but it does have an effect on the central nervous system. The use of this drug as an experimental model for cardiac and bladder function has been tested.
