Mecarbam is a carbamate insecticide that has been shown to have genotoxic effects. It is used to control mosquitoes and other insects in wastewater treatment and is also found in maternal blood. Mecarbam inhibits acetylcholinesterase activity and can cause liver damage, particularly in risk groups such as pregnant women, infants, or children. It is currently being studied as a potential analytical method for the detection of carbaryl.
