It is efficient and chemoselective, has high yields, and does not require a catalyst. 5-Benzylamino-1-pentanol is effective for the oxidation of primary amines and benzyl moieties. 5-Benzylamino-1-pentanol selectively oxidizes primary amines over secondary amines, tertiary amines, and benzyl moieties. The reaction occurs at room temperature with aqueous sodium peroxide as an oxidant.
