Descrizione:Methyl 2-nitrophenyl sulfone is a white solid that can be prepared by the reaction of 4-nitrophenol and hydroxylamine in an alkaline solution. The infrared spectrum of this compound has a strong absorption band at 1620 cm-1, which corresponds to the C=O stretch of the ester group. This compound is used as a precursor for pharmaceuticals such as cefotaxime and erythromycin. It can be prepared by the reaction of 2-nitrophenol and biphenyl with sodium hydroxide solution under reflux conditions. Methyl 2-Nitrophenyl Sulfone also reacts with alkali to form alkaline solutions that are soluble in water, yielding basic salts such as sodium methyl 2-nitrophenyl sulfonate.
