Descrizione:2-Ethoxycyclohexan-1-ol is an organic compound that is used in the synthesis of cyclic ethers. It can be produced by the dehydrogenation of 2,2-dimethylcyclopentanol with molybdenum as a catalyst. The rate of reaction is influenced by the constant and strategies used to control the reaction. X-ray diffraction studies have been done on crystalline samples to determine its crystal structure. These studies revealed that 2-ethoxycyclohexan-1-ol has a peroxide group where it binds to oxygen atoms at different locations with different binding energies. It also has an epoxide group that can react with a nucleophile such as water to form an oxirane ring, which is thermodynamically favourable. This reactivity can be seen in cyclic ethers such as tetrahydrofuran and ethylene oxide.
