This compound has been shown to inhibit bacterial enzyme activities, such as beta-lactamase, DNA gyrase, and topoisomerase IV. 2-Hydroxydodecanoic acid has also been found to be an antimicrobial agent against a variety of bacteria, including E. coli and S. aureus. The sample preparation for this compound included the use of picolinic acid as a reagent. It was also determined that 2-hydroxydodecanoic acid contains a hydroxyl group in its chemical structure.
