It has been shown to inhibit the binding of agonists, such as anandamide and CP55,940, to the cannabinoid receptors. 1-(Bis(4-chlorophenyl)methyl)piperazine has also been shown to have a higher affinity for the CB1 receptor than SR141716A, which is a selective CB1 receptor antagonist. The affinity of this drug for the cannabinoid receptor has been optimized in order to reduce its potential for side effects.
