2-Isothiocyanatopyridine is a tetradentate ligand that has been used in the synthesis of carbodiimides. It can be protonated to form an ionic compound. The chemical structure of 2-isothiocyanatopyridine is similar to phenyl isothiocyanate, which has been shown to react with dioxane and form benzene derivatives. 2-Isothiocyanatopyridine can react with phenyl isothiocyanate in a stepwise manner, forming an imine intermediate and then reacting with dioxane to form benzene derivatives. This process can also be reversed by reacting the benzene derivative with phenyl isothiocyanate.
