The main difference between the two compounds is that octachlorobiphenyl is an isomer of pentachlorobiphenyl and it has a lower molecular weight. Octachlorobiphenyl can be found in the environment as an environmental pollutant or byproducts of combustion and industrial processes such as metal production and petroleum refining. It can also be formed during the production of other chlorinated organics such as chlorinated phenols or certain pesticides.
