Descrizione:Prednisolone is a corticosteroid that is used to treat chronic inflammatory diseases and autoimmune disorders. It reduces the activity of the immune system by decreasing the production of chemicals that cause inflammation. Prednisolone is also used to treat allergies, asthma, ulcerative colitis, lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Prednisolone has been shown to cause osteopenia and osteoporosis in humans and animals. The drug works by reducing the number of osteoclasts in the bone marrow, which are responsible for breaking down old bone tissue. Low doses of prednisolone have been seen to reduce carotid artery intima-medial thickness (IMT) and systolic blood pressure (BP), while high doses increase IMT and systolic BP. This decrease in IMT may be due to an anti-inflammatory effect on blood vessels.
