Descrizione:Philanthotoxin 74 is a potent antagonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. It has been shown to block the incremental, incompletely, and ganglion cells in animals. Philanthotoxin 74 has also been shown to be effective at blocking synaptic transmission and inducing depression in animal models. The potency of this compound was found to be similar to that of MK-801, a well-known NMDA receptor blocker. This compound has potential use as a treatment for Alzheimer's disease and depression because it is able to inhibit glutamate release by inhibiting the NMDA receptor.
