Descrizione:1-Tricosanol is a natural compound found in plants, animals, and humans. It has been shown to have anticancer activity against human cervical carcinoma cells. 1-Tricosanol binds to the protocatechuic acid receptor on the cell membrane of the cancer cells, which leads to apoptosis or programmed cell death. The bound form of 1-tricosanol is metabolized by esterases and hydrolases into phytanic acid, which is then converted into a fatty acid. Phytanic acid can be converted back into 1-tricosanol through a chemical reaction with an alkali metal hydroxide.
