It has been shown to inhibit the replication of Rhipicephalus and Pycnoporus species. The hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl group and amine is important for its binding with the transcription-polymerase chain. This drug also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA gyrase, which is an enzyme that maintains the integrity of bacterial DNA. 2,5-Dihydroxybenzoic acid (2,5-DB) can be transformed into ethyl 2,5-dihydroxybenzoate by camphor in an inorganic reaction. In addition, 2,5-DB can be synthesized from salicylic acid (SA) and formaldehyde via amines.
