Chlorpropham-4-hydroxy-o-sulfonic acid is a broad spectrum antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi. It has been shown to be active against microorganisms such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. The mechanism of action of chlorpropham-4-hydroxy-o-sulfonic acid is not fully understood, but it has been shown to inhibit RNA synthesis in the virus and certain bacteria. Chlorpropham-4-hydroxy-o-sulfonic acid is a synthetic antibiotic which was first synthesized in 1953. It is used as an antiparasitic agent for the treatment of infections caused by parasites such as Echinococcus granulosus.
