Istaroxime is a drug that acts as an inhibitor of the ryanodine receptor. It has been shown to reduce chronic oral toxicity and improve cardiac function in rats with congestive heart failure. Istaroxime also inhibits cardiomyocyte contraction, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the release of intracellular calcium ions from the sarcoplasmic reticulum.
