Acorafloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that has been used to treat respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and urinary tract infections. Acorafloxacin inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the DNA gyrase enzyme, which maintains the integrity of bacterial DNA. It also binds to the topoisomerase IV enzyme, which is involved in DNA synthesis and repair. Acorafloxacin has a broad spectrum of activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Acorafloxacin can be used for the treatment of staphylococcal infections with a clinical response in 90% or more of patients. It has been shown to be effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates as well as erythromycin-resistant Mycobacterium avium complex isolates.
