Descrizione:5²,6²-epoxycholestanol (5²,6²-EPOCH) is an epoxide that is naturally produced in the body. It is a major metabolite of cholesterol and has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. 5²,6²-EPOCH has been found to inhibit the enzyme epoxide hydrolase, which prevents the conversion of epoxides into their corresponding diols. This activity may be responsible for its anti-cancer properties. In addition, 5²,6²-EPOCH inhibits the bacterial strain Helicobacter pylori and has been shown to cause eye disorders in rats when injected into the vitreous humor. The physiological function of 5²,6²-EPOCH is still largely unknown but it is thought that it may play a role in regulating blood pressure or body weight through its effects on metabolism.
