Cyclooctanecarboxylic acid is a hydroxylated monocarboxylic acid that has been shown to inhibit the activity of various enzymes. It is a polar molecule with a diameter of about 1.5 nm, which can be used as a polarizer in light microscopy. Cyclooctanecarboxylic acid has been shown to inhibit the production of hepatitis C virus particles and insulin resistance in mammalian cells.
