4-Methylphthalic Acid is a model system for organic solvents and salts. It has been used in microscopy studies to show the presence of functional groups, such as alkoxy groups and chlorine atoms. FT-IR spectroscopy has been used to identify the functional groups on the surface of this compound. The compound has also been studied using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, which is a technique that can be used to identify supramolecular structures. 4-Methylphthalic Acid has been shown to be bioactive, with p-hydroxybenzoic acid and 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid as two examples of its bioactive substances. This chemical is also an efficient source of energy when it undergoes combustion or oxidation reactions. It has been demonstrated that 4-methylphthalic acid can be used in medicinal drugs as a precursor for other compounds.
