It has been found to inhibit human liver glutathione s-transferase, which is involved in the metabolism of lipid peroxidation products, and it also inhibits oxidation of hydrogen peroxide by human cytochrome P450. 4-(4-Chlorobenzyl)pyridine has been shown to have potent inhibitory effects on CYP2D6, an enzyme involved in the production of dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. 4-(4-Chlorobenzyl)pyridine can also be used as a chemical inhibitor for other chemicals because it binds to many different types of enzymes.
