Acetophenone p-Toluenesulfonylhydrazone is a synthetic, organic compound that is used as a reagent in the chemical industry. It can be synthesized by reacting acetophenone with p-toluenesulfonylhydrazide in the presence of copper salt and an organic solvent. This reaction is performed at constant pressure to produce a colorless solution. The molecule has two functional groups: carbon-carbon bonds and an aromatic ring with a hydrazide group. Acetophenone p-Toluenesulfonylhydrazone has been used to synthesize β-unsaturated ketones from methyl ketones, which are important for the production of pharmaceuticals such as antihistamines, hypnotics, and antipsychotics. The reaction time is typically between 2 and 24 hours at room temperature.
