ST 91 is a 2-adrenergic receptor antagonist that has been shown to have a depressant effect on the cardiovascular system. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of sepsis, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. ST 91 is able to inhibit the response pathway induced by antimicrobial agents such as dexmedetomidine and clonidine. This drug also has an antinociceptive effect when used in conjunction with nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). ST 91 is a polymeric matrix that contains both cationic and anionic components. It binds to the cation channel, which is responsible for the passage of ions across cell membranes, thereby blocking it and leading to a decrease in blood pressure.
