Methyl phenylpropiolate is an organic chemical compound that has been shown to inhibit hepatitis C virus by binding to the quaternary nitrogen atoms in the viral envelope. The compound is also effective against other viruses, such as influenza and HIV. Methyl phenylpropiolate inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the benzimidazole derivative in their cell wall. This interaction prevents bacterial cell division, which leads to cell death. The structure of methyl phenylpropiolate is similar to that of a quinoline derivative, which can be used for treating inflammatory diseases such as arthritis or asthma.
