3-Heptenoic acid is a naturally occurring fatty acid that is found in the bodies of humans and animals. It is also used in the preparation of various compounds such as aldehydes, which are volatile compounds with a characteristic odor or taste. 3-Heptenoic acid is homologous to octanoic acid, but has three more carbons chains and one less double bond.
