Goniopypyrone is a natural product that has been shown to have cytotoxic effects against murine leukemia cells. It is an enantiomer of the naturally occurring methyl cinnamate, and it has been shown to selectively inhibit the growth of human lung cancer cells. Goniopypyrone has also been found to be active in bioassays against other tumor cell lines and low-energy radiation. This substance may have anticancer properties because it inhibits the expression of certain genes that are involved in cell proliferation.
