3-Amino-2-hydroxypyridine is a heterocyclic compound that is reactive and putatively protonated. It has been shown to have inhibitory properties in cell culture. 3-Amino-2-hydroxypyridine can be activated by hydrochloric acid or trifluoroacetic acid. Hydrolysis of the amine group leads to the release of ammonia, which can be oxidized to form nitrous oxide. The photophysical properties of 3-amino-2-hydroxypyridine have been studied and found to be related to its amines and hydroxyl groups. Drug reactions are likely if it comes into contact with skin or mucous membranes.
