Acetoxyacetyl chloride also has been found to have receptor activity for ATP-dependent potassium channels, which may be useful for treating cardiac arrhythmia. Acetoxyacetyl chloride can be synthesized by reacting hydrochloric acid with acetone in the presence of a catalyst such as zinc powder or copper(II) sulfate.
