Allyl methyl ether (AME) is an organic solution that is used as a solvent. It reacts with metal hydroxides to form inorganic acid and unsaturated alkyl. This reaction also produces a number of reaction products, one of which is a polymeric matrix. The kinetic energy and polycarboxylic acid are the most reactive of these products, and have been shown to be catalysts for the conversion of hydroxy groups into hydroxyl groups in the presence of radiation. The use of AME has been shown to increase the rate of reaction by up to three orders of magnitude, compared to reactions without AME.
