2-Adamantanamin hydrochloride is an amine that is structurally related to 2,4-diaminopyrimidine and 2,6-diaminopyrimidine. It can be used as a hydrogen bond donor or acceptor, depending on the solvent. The use of 2-adamantanamin hydrochloride in the preparation of nucleic acids has been shown to inhibit signal pathways associated with influenza virus replication. The affinity constants for this compound have been measured by fluorescence quenching in an aryl halide assay. The effective dose for inhibition of influenza virus replication is 10 μM. This drug also has inhibitory properties against bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
2-Adamantanamin hydrochloride is identified by LC-MS/MS using a hybridization method to identify specific nucleosides and nucleotides in the sample being analyzed.
