2-Amino-5-bromobenzoic acid is a chemical compound that is used to synthesize other pharmaceuticals. It has been shown to have potent antiinflammatory activity and inhibit the growth of certain types of cancer cells. 2-Amino-5-bromobenzoic acid also has antiviral properties, and it inhibits the replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in cell culture. This drug has been shown to be effective against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), varicella zoster virus (VZV), and cytomegalovirus (CMV). 2-Amino-5-bromobenzoic acid is poorly soluble in water; therefore, it can be administered intravenously as a prodrug. The absorption of this drug is dependent on pH levels, with higher concentrations found in acidic environments.
