2-Acetyl-4-methylpentyl)trimethylammonium iodide is an isoquinoline compound that is used as a precursor in the synthesis of deutetrabenazine and tetrabenazine. 2-Acetyl-4-methylpentyl)trimethylammonium iodide binds to the thyroid receptor and blocks the uptake of iodine by the thyroid gland, which prevents the synthesis of thyroxine and triiodothyronine.
