It binds to the active site of the enzyme, inhibiting its function and preventing the replication of DNA. 3-Aminopyrazine-2-carboxamide has a safety profile similar to that of other quinoline derivatives and is able to inhibit dna replication in both Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex. This agent has been shown to be more efficient than other antimycobacterial agents in inhibiting bacterial growth and may have a greater potential for clinical application.
