Azimsulfuron is a herbicide that is used to control annual grasses and broadleaf weeds in crop fields. It inhibits the production of chlorophyll, which prevents photosynthesis and the synthesis of other plant products. Azimsulfuron has an optimum concentration of 0.5-1 ppm, but may be toxic at levels above this range. It is also known to be synergistic with pyrazole-containing herbicides such as triaziflam, cloransulam, or flumetsulam. The chemical stability of azimsulfuron has been found to be pH dependent, with a half life of 4 hours at pH 7 and less than 1 hour at pH 3.
Azimsulfuron has been found to cause hepatic toxicity in rats following acute exposure. It also showed estrogenic activity in vitro when tested on rat uteri tissue by stimulating DNA synthesis and increasing cell proliferation rates.
