4-Acetoxymethylpyridine is a synthetic compound that belongs to the anion group. It has been used as a stationary phase in gas chromatography and as an eluent in liquid chromatography. 4-Acetoxymethylpyridine is also commonly used as a reagent to convert alcohols into their corresponding pyridinium salts. This compound undergoes nucleophilic attack by hydroxide ions, which leads to bond cleavage and the formation of the n-oxide. 4-Acetoxymethylpyridine is soluble in polar solvents such as ethanol, but insoluble in nonpolar solvents such as hexane.
